Alma Hernandez

Candidate for Arizona State Senate – District 20

Arizona · Legislative District 20

Statement

Since I got elected I have focused on one thing: delivering results for my district. We don't need empty promises we need real solutions and someone who understands the legislative process. I secured millions in funding for critical social services and helped low-income seniors with rental and utility assistance. I invested 1M for Pascua Yaqui Tribe Early Childhood Center and Falls Prevention Research at Banner because as a public health professional I understand the importance of protecting the most vulnerable. I passed legislation that strengthened unions and protected working people across Arizona. This record did not happen by accident. It happened because I stayed focused. Few Democratic lawmakers in Arizona have passed any laws or even had a bill hearing but I know what is possible when experience, values, and persistence align and I will continue to deliver for the community where I was born and raised. I am a proud AFT Union educator who has championed legislation focused on affordability and issues that matter. I have been the proud sponsor of rental assistance, bail reform, feminine hygiene and diaper tax exemptions, among many other issues over the years and know what it takes to be effective and lead.
