Christine Marsh
Candidate for Arizona State Senate – District 5
Arizona · Legislative District 5
Statement
I was first elected to the State Senate in 2020 and served two terms. I have a record of supporting reproductive rights, gun safety, voter protection, clean air, safe water, and education. I originally ran for office because I knew I could be a voice for public school students, teachers, and staff. As a former English teacher with as many as 44 students in a class, I know what it means to be underfunded and understaffed—and I still do; my teaching experiences guided my work as a member of the Education Committee. I also served on the Transportation Committee where I advocated for public transit and investments in transportation infrastructure. One party rule has stifled Arizona and harmed vulnerable populations. Too many good bills fail without a hearing and it is too easy for extreme legislation to pass with just partisan support. I was able to sponsor and pass a bill to legalize fentanyl testing strips after losing my youngest son to an accidental overdose, but there is more work to be done to mitigate the loss of life due to Arizona's drug crisis—and I will continue to focus on reducing access to fentanyl and other dangerous drugs.

In 2016, she was named Arizona's Teacher of the Year, and she traveled the state and saw firsthand the issues public schools face.
