Johnathan Nez
Candidate for U.S. House of Representatives - District 2
Arizona · Congressional District 2
Biography
Jonathan Nez is a Democratic candidate for Arizona's 2nd Congressional District. Born in Tuba City and raised in Shonto, Arizona, he grew up on a family ranch without electricity or running water. He served as President of the Navajo Nation from 2019 to 2023, leading the tribal government of the largest Native American nation in the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic. He ran against incumbent Eli Crane in 2024, narrowly losing. He is running again in 2026, focusing on healthcare access, tribal sovereignty, and opposing cuts to Medicaid that he argues will devastate rural and Native communities in the district. If elected, he would be Arizona's first Indigenous member of Congress.
