Maritza Higuera is a Latina, mom, educator, author, rural business owner, and community leader running for the Arizona House of Representatives to ensure rural and border communities have strong representation at the Capitol. Born in Tucson and raised on both sides of the U.S.–Mexico border, Maritza understands the realities and opportunities of life in Southern Arizona. She built her career in education, supporting children and families through early learning, health, and nutrition programs. She is also a bilingual children's author whose books promote literacy, healthy living, and appreciation for community heroes. Together with her family, Maritza operates an educational ranch in Santa Cruz County where students learn about agriculture, water conservation, and environmental stewardship while connecting with local farmers and small businesses. Her work in education, humanitarian service, and community leadership has earned national and international recognition, including an Honoris Causa distinction for her contributions to education and community development. As a proud Army mom and the wife of a firefighter, Maritza believes public service is about dedication, resilience, and community. She is running to strengthen public education, support rural economies, protect Arizona's water, and ensure rural and border communities have a voice in state government that represents them.
