Biography
Alicia Goforth has represented District 5, which covers northeast Mesa, on the Mesa City Council since January 2023, after running unopposed in 2022. Before joining the council she worked as an attorney with an international law firm and served as outside counsel to corporations. She describes herself as a "commonsense conservative" focused on public safety, protecting neighborhoods, keeping taxes and utility rates down, and frugal spending. In a November 2025 council debate over utility rates, she said the council had pushed staff to cut a proposed 6% increase to 2.5%. She is endorsed by Mayor Mark Freeman, Vice Mayor Scott Somers, Councilmembers Rich Adams and Jenn Duff, the Mesa Police Association, and United Mesa Firefighters. She and her husband have lived in Mesa for 18 years and have three children. Goforth finished first of five candidates in the July 21, 2026 primary with 34.1% of the vote and faces Aleks Vranicic in the November 3, 2026 runoff.
