Amelia Gallitano

Candidate for Arizona State Senate – District 2

Arizona · Legislative District 2

Statement

My name is Amelia Gallitano. I'm a doctor, neuroscientist, professor, and mom. I moved here 19 years ago with my two sons to be a professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix, and I've been educating new doctors ever since. I also cared for veterans with PTSD at the Phoenix VA for years. It does not take a PhD in neuroscience to see that something is very wrong in our legislature. Lawmakers are giving tax breaks to private plane owners while everyday Arizonans struggle to make ends meet. They are giving away a billion dollars with no accountability to private school vouchers while attacking the public schools that 90% of Arizona families choose. They want to take away Vote by Mail, which more than 75% of voters rely on. I've spent my life in public service, and I'm stepping up to work for everyday Arizonans. I will make healthcare more affordable, support our public schools and teachers, and stop corporations from driving up housing and energy costs. It's time for a state senator focused on people, not corporate profits. I would be honored to represent you.

Biography

My name is Amelia Gallitano, and I'm a doctor, neuroscientist, professor, and a mom. I'm a problem-solver fed up with corporations getting richer while hardworking Arizonans struggle with the rising cost of living and affordability. I moved to North Phoenix 19 years ago to be a founding professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix and have been educating new doctors ever since, while caring for veterans with PTSD. As a doctor and educator, I support reining in pharmaceutical price-gouging and investing in public education. As a scientist, I believe data centers must pay their own energy costs, and we must address climate and water crises.
