Hi, my name is Amish, and I'm proud to have served as an Arizona State Representative for the last several years. I now ask for your continued consideration and support as I run for United States Congress in 2026. The last few years were stressful for our state and our nation, and I hope that we bring out the "better angels of our nature" in each of us as President Lincoln once said. Let's support and uplift each other as we face daunting societal challenges such as rising housing costs and homelessness, underfunded public education, and inaccessible or unaffordable health care. Meanwhile, we as your elected officials must work as hard as we can to deliver results for you on these fronts. Biography
Dr. Amish Shah is the Democratic nominee for Arizona's 1st Congressional District. An emergency room physician, he served in the Arizona House of Representatives for District 24 from 2019 to 2023 and for District 5 from 2023 to 2024. He earned a B.A. and an M.D. from Northwestern University and a master's degree in public health from UC Berkeley, and has worked at Mayo Clinic and Dignity Health and as a sideline physician for the New York Jets. Shah won the 2024 Democratic primary in this district and lost the general election to Republican David Schweikert, 51.9% to 48.1%. Schweikert did not seek re-election in 2026. Shah's 2026 campaign focuses on lowering costs, rolling back tariffs, protecting Medicare and Social Security, reversing Medicaid cuts, and abortion rights. He has been endorsed by three law enforcement groups, including the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Arizona. In an October 7, 2026 Clean Elections debate, he said he opposes new data centers in the district because of water concerns. Shah won the July 21, 2026 Democratic primary with 39.4% of the vote and faces Republican Jay Feely and Libertarian Monica Alponte in the November 3 general election.
