With six years on the Tempe Union High School District Governing Board, Armando brings pragmatic leadership that blends a fresh perspective with policy expertise and governing experience. His platform includes a focus on public education, affordability, quality affordable healthcare, and water conservation. As a school board president, Armando has seen the impacts of cuts to public education and will champion education reform to improve quality and outcomes in education and fully fund our public schools, including placing guardrails and accountability on Arizona's ESA program. Biography
Armando Montero was raised in Arizona and attended public schools. In 2020, at 19, he became the youngest person elected to the Tempe Union High School District Governing Board, and he was later elected board president four times. He earned three degrees from ASU, is pursuing a law degree, and has worked as a senior planning analyst at ASU. He serves on several nonprofit boards, including the Arizona School Boards Association. His platform includes public school funding and limits on the ESA voucher program, housing and renter protections, groundwater oversight, and healthcare access. His campaign lists endorsements from Tempe Mayor Corey Woods, Attorney General Kris Mayes, and U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton. He advanced from the July 21, 2026 Democratic primary and faces Democrat Stacey Travers and Republican David Richardson for two seats in the November 3, 2026 general election.
