Biography
Carine Werner is the Republican incumbent State Senator for Legislative District 4, first elected in 2024 when she unseated a Democratic incumbent. An immigrant, mother of three and small business owner, she is also a member of the Scottsdale Unified School District governing board. She chairs the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, where she has led oversight hearings into fraud in the state's Medicaid program (AHCCCS), and her campaign says more than 21 of her bills have been signed by Gov. Katie Hobbs, including measures on Department of Child Safety reforms and requiring school employees to report suspected abuse to law enforcement. KJZZ reported that she wants to raise teacher pay and supports the state's private school voucher program. She ran unopposed in the July 21, 2026 Republican primary and faces Democratic nominee Aaron Lieberman in the November 3, 2026 general election.
