Biography
Elijah Norton is a businessman who founded a finance and insurance company headquartered in Arizona and is a former treasurer of the Arizona Republican Party. He says he would bring private-sector investment experience to managing the state's assets. His platform includes declining to invest state funds in companies with diversity, equity and inclusion hiring policies, adopting new software to reduce fraud in the Empowerment Scholarship Account program, and selling state trust land near developed areas to grow the Permanent Land Endowment Trust Fund. In a Sept. 23, 2026 Clean Elections debate, Norton and Democrat Nick Mansour each argued the other would put the state's money at risk, with Norton calling Mansour's plan to shift more of the trust fund into stocks a gamble. Outgoing Treasurer Kimberly Yee endorsed Norton's primary opponent and had not endorsed in the general election. Norton won the July 21, 2026 Republican primary over Katherine Haley, 56.4% to 43.6%, and faces Mansour in the November 3, 2026 general election.
