Biography
Helen Hunter is a social justice and community advocate, ordained minister, and board-certified chaplain who has lived in Mesa for more than 19 years. She has advocated on human rights, community policing, outreach to unhoused people and people with mental illness, women's health, and aging. Her community and board affiliations include the East Valley NAACP Legal Redress Committee, Arizonans Concerned About Smoking, the Arizona Interfaith Movement, and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. She describes her approach as promoting healthy communities through the Golden Rule. She finished first in the July 21, 2026 Democratic primary and faces Democrat Brian Calaway, Republicans Justin Olson and James Rogers, and No Labels Party candidate David Scott for two seats in the November 3, 2026 general election.
