Statement
I am Navajo of the Tangle People Clan, born for the Red House clan, maternal grandfathers are of the Deer Water clan, and paternal grandfathers are of the Cliff Dweller clan. I was born north of the sacred mountain of the west, Doo'ko'osliid (the San Francisco Peaks). Funding public education, providing for our youth and elders, and protecting the environment will be key tenants of my service at the legislature. Tribal sovereignty must be respected and being LD 6 this district represents 10 tribes in Arizona, it's vital that we elect a representative who can work with these tribes and advance their interests at the state legislature. We are the largest, most rural district in the state and we deserve representation that will travel to meet people where they are at. I am committed to serving the people of Arizona.
Biography
Jamescita Peshlakai is a combat veteran of the Persian Gulf War. She previously served in the Arizona legislature as a Representative and a Senator for this district. Peshlakai earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at NAU in Flagstaff, and is currently a student at ASU's Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law. Peshlakai served as the Tribal Liaision to the Department of the Interior under the Biden Administration. She also serves on the Arizona Department Board of Transportation, appointed by Governor Katie Hobbs.
