JoAnna Mendoza is a proud mom, dedicated lifelong public servant, and retired United States Marine. Throughout her life, she has always answered the call to serve—whether by defending the United States from enemies abroad, training the military leaders of tomorrow, or advocating for veterans as they navigate the dysfunctional systems meant to support their transition to civilian life. Now, JoAnna is answering the call to serve by running to represent Arizona’s 6th Congressional District. Jo will bring battle-tested leadership to fix the broken systems in DC, fight for working families, and tackle the cost of food, gas, housing, and child care.
Biography
JoAnna Mendoza is the Democratic nominee for Arizona's 6th Congressional District, a competitive southeastern Arizona seat that includes parts of Tucson, Sierra Vista and Casa Grande. She grew up in Eloy in a family of farmworkers and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17 before joining the U.S. Marine Corps, serving 20 years, including as a drill instructor and with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. She later earned a master's degree in leadership from Grand Canyon University and worked as a nonprofit leader, veteran advocate and veteran services representative for former U.S. Rep. Tom O'Halleran. Her campaign focuses on lowering costs, restoring SNAP and AHCCCS funding she says was cut by the One Big Beautiful Bill, healthcare and border security. She has faced criticism for past support for reallocating some law enforcement funding. Her endorsements include Sens. Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego, the DCCC's Red to Blue program, EMILYs List and VoteVets. She met Ciscomani in a September 10, 2026 Clean Elections debate focused on inflation, taxes and safety-net programs. Mendoza ran unopposed in the July 21, 2026 Democratic primary and faces Ciscomani, Libertarian Jereme Peters, Green Party candidate Gary Swing and independent write-in Michael Dorland in the November 3, 2026 general election.
