Having watched our district change from farming to the high-tech hub of the state, it's clear to me our State Senator must represent us and focus on the challenges of today. My priorities are lowering costs, protecting healthcare, education, community safety, and ensuring a sustainable Arizona. Many young families and seniors can no longer afford to live in the East Valley. I will fight to lower our grocery, utility, and childcare costs and am not afraid to take on the political establishment and monopolies to make it happen. I will protect healthcare for families, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities. One major health emergency shouldn't make a hardworking family go broke. Meeting Arizona's students' needs requires fully funding our K-12 schools, colleges, and universities, and offering competitive teacher salaries. In today's classrooms sit tomorrow's leaders and our community's future. I will work to keep our vibrant community safe and thriving! In the desert, water is life. Ensuring Arizona's sustainable future means a long-term water supply we can count on. A sustainable future for Arizona's economy and quality of life means clean water, clean air, and mitigating the effects of excessive heat.
Biography
Kristie O'Brien grew up in Chandler, the daughter of a social worker and granddaughter of a police officer and volunteer firefighter. She is a former lawyer and mediator and the mother of twin boys. She lost family members in the September 11 attacks. Her campaign says she worked for Republican senators on the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works on reauthorization of the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts. She ran for the state Senate in 2014 and lost to Steve Yarbrough. She lists affordability, including housing and healthcare costs, and long-term water security as her top priorities. She ran unopposed in the July 21, 2026 Democratic primary and faces Republican Julie Willoughby in the November 3, 2026 general election.
