Miranda Lopez
Candidate for Arizona State House – District 21
Arizona · Legislative District 21
Statement
As a young person with student loan debt who lives paycheck to paycheck, I know firsthand that voters in District 21 are facing unprecedented hardships especially in regards to public education, housing affordability, and the exploitation of our natural resources. We need progressive solutions to solve these problems, like returning to a progressive state tax system, reinvesting in public education, incentivizing the development of middle housing and restricting corporate use of water, land and utilities. I'm tired of working to elect Democrats who either refuse to push these progressive policies or actively oppose them and side with Republicans on issues of free speech and voting rights. I myself have direct experience of drafting bill language to cap public university presidential salaries and finding a Republican sponsor to get the bill heard in committee, all without sacrificing my own progressive values in the name of "bipartisanship." By entering the race, I will give voters in District 21 the progressive candidate they deserve, and I will champion the causes of working class families.
