Biography
John Giles is an attorney who served on the Mesa City Council from 1996 to 2000 and as Mesa's mayor from 2014 to 2025. A registered Republican for decades, he changed his voter registration to independent in May 2026 after criticizing party "extremists." On August 11, 2026, Gov. Katie Hobbs named Giles as her Lieutenant Governor running mate, framing it as a bipartisan ticket aimed at independent and moderate Republican voters for the November 3, 2026 general election.
